Profile

I grew up in Des Moines, Washington and moved to Massachusetts in 1971 to attend MIT. Today I live in Newton, Massachusetts with my wife, Sylvia, our youngest daughter, Emma, and our Golden Retriever, Val. My wife and I founded Information Technology Systems in 1990, and today we have 30 employees including two of our older children, Bryan and Steven. I'm the CEO and my wife's the COO and, even so, we still love each other. Our business builds sophisticated database-driven web applications and is also recognized as a world leader in providing gaming information. Together our most popular websites, including Casino City, Online Casino City and Casino City Times have many millions of visitors every year.

I edit in dmoz in areas that relate to my life: Des Moines, WA and Newton, MA. MIT and Phi Kappa Sigma - the fraternity I belonged to there. And, of course, all aspects of the gaming industry. In my bookmarks you can see some of the websites I am involved with at work plus a few other sites of interest - for example, there is a link to an article in Business Week about the First Amendment lawsuit I filed against the US Department of Justice. Even though I'm normally on the quiet side, as that lawsuit shows, I'm not at all timid about putting myself on the line and fighting for what I believe in.

I am enthusiastic about being an editor at dmoz and would be happy to share my experience and perspective with you if you are considering becoming an editor yourself. Like almost anything worthwhile it is not all roses. That means you can make a difference. But please do not contact me personally about listing a site in dmoz. If you have a site you feel is appropriate for listing in a category where I am listed as an editor, or a subcategory of such a category, please submit the site for consideration using the suggest URL link on the top of the appropriate dmoz directory page. I review submissions to the categories where I have editing authority on a regular basis. Attempts to contact me or any other dmoz editor personally with the objective of influencing the listing of a site are inappropriate and could have a negative effect. Many sites have been permanently banned from inclusion in dmoz because of inappropriate attempts to influence their listing.
