The suborder Mysticeti, consisting of 10 species. Families are: Balaenopteridae - rorquals - 6 species (minke, Bryde's, sei, fin, humpback, and blue whales) Eschrichtiidae - Gray Whale Balaenidae - right whales - 3 species

The family Balaenidae, consisting of the Right Whale (Eubalaena glacialis), the Bowhead Whale, or Greenland Right Whale (Balaena mysticetus), and the Pygmy Right Whale (Caperea marginata), which is sometimes split off into its own family, the Neobalaenidae.

Balaenopteridae

The Balaenopteridae, a family consisting of minke, Bryde's, sei, fin, humpback, and blue whales.

The family Eschrichtidae, consisting of one species, the Gray Whale (Eschrichtius robustus).
