Genetics of the Oomycota: water molds and downy mildews. These organisms were formerly classified as fungi. They are filamentous protists which must absorb their food from the surrounding water or soil, or may invade the body of another organism to feed. Oomycetes cause certain diseases of plants and fish and play an important role in decomposition.
Sites about the genetics of parasitic flagellate protozoans of the genus Trypanosoma. These are best known as the parasite transmitted by tsetse flies that causes African sleeping sickness. In general, Trypanosoma species are transmitted to the vertebrate bloodstream, lymph, and spinal fluid by certain insects and often causing diseases such as sleeping sickness and nagana.
