This category contains osteopathic practitioner's homepages and clinic websites. In the U.S. D.O.'s are doctors of osteopathy and are complete physicians, licensed to perform surgery and prescribe medicine.
In other countries, D.O.'s are diplomates of osteopathy who mostly restrict their practice to OMT (osteopathic manipulative treatment) and do not prescribe medicine or perform surgery.
Although British osteopaths do not prescribe medicine and perform surgery as do their American counterparts, their profession is recognized in the UK as a scientific system of healthcare. The Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) used is exactly the same as in the United States and includes muscle energy, high-velocity low-amplitude techniques, counterstrain, facilitated positional release, and cranial osteopathy, among others. Registered osteopaths have received a diploma in osteopathy.
