Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which is commonly known as baker's or budding yeast.
Still classified as fungi although it is now known not to be related. Includes three groups plasmodial, cellular, and labyrinthulomycota. The cellular slime mold Dictyostelium discoideum is used as a model organism for functional analysis of sequenced genes.
